What is South Carolina SBIRT?
SBIRT is a comprehensive, integrated, public health approach to the delivery of early intervention and treatment services. It is used for persons with substance use disorders and those whose use is at moderate and higher levels of risk.
Screening
Universal screening for quickly assessing severity of use of alcohol and illicit drugs, as well as prescription drug use, misuse, and abuse.
Brief Intervention
Brief motivational and awareness-raising intervention given to users who engage in risky or problematic behavior.
Referral to Treatment
Referrals to specialty care for patients with substance use disorders.
